White Rock’s beaches offer something for everyone! With 8 km (4.9 miles) of sand and shallows you’re sure to find a perfect spot all to yourself. No matter the season, a trip to the beach is a day well spent! White Rock’s beaches are near enough to Vancouver and the surrounding communities of Surrey, Delta, Richmond, Langley, and Burnaby that it makes White Rock the go-to beachside destination for locals and visitors alike.
White Rock Beach is divided into “East Beach” and “West Beach”, separated by a rise in the shoreline that the locals call “the hump”.
West Beach is home to White Rock’s famous pier, where it’s not uncommon to see people jumping into the deep, warm waters below, or dropping a line to try their luck at crabbing. A quick seaside walk takes you over the hump to East Beach, which tends to be a little quieter and appeals to families looking to spend a relaxing day at the beach building sandcastles, walking the beach at low-tide, and enjoying picnic lunches.
On those days when galoshes take the place of flip flops, White Rock beach is an amazing wide-open space to take a stroll. Grab a hot coffee (or hot chocolate) and a baked treat and set out for a walk on the seemingly endless expanse of beach. Locals just pop on a good jacket and let the sun glinting off of the water keep them toasty as they explore White Rock’s famous beach.
You may not think it, but watersports are a year-round passion for locals. Among the best beaches in the region, the warm, protected, water of Semiahmoo Bay provides a safe area for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking. And when the tide goes out, the beach transforms into a magical place to explore tide pools, try your hand at skimboarding, fly a kite or build a sandcastle.
Please note that while dogs are permitted on White Rock beaches, they must be on a leash of fewer than two metres at all times. The beaches are part of the Boundary Bay Wildlife Management Area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Province of British Columbia.
