While it might be a bit nippy, particularly for the usually mild West Coast, there’s no need to go into hibernation mode this winter in White Rock. There’s a myriad of fantastic activities to enjoy when the temperatures dip. Here are 10 delightful ways to make the most of the winter season:
1) Embrace the Outdoors
Don’t let the brisk weather deter you. The sun is still shining, and the beach beckons. Wrap up warmly and head to the waterfront for a refreshing beachfront walk. With sunset as early as 4:15 in the winter, the White Rock Pier provides the ideal backdrop to watch the sun dip below the horizon.
2) Dine and play board games
What could be more delightful than a warm, inviting place to relax with a dear friend on a chilly day? Some of White Rock’s charming coffee shops and restaurants offer board games to their patrons, ensuring that you can escape the cold and banish boredom. Among our preferred spots for a tasty treat and a fun game, we highly recommend The Wafflers and 3 Dogs Brewing.
3) Explore the Museum
Spend some quality time delving into White Rock’s rich history at the White Rock Museum and Archives. Don’t forget to visit the kids’ area, where little ones can learn about the marine life in White Rock and play on a miniature train, paying homage to the building’s history as a train station. In December, the museum hosts a Craft Christmas Fair you won’t want to miss.
4) Enjoy a play
White Rock boasts a thriving arts scene, with two top-tier theatre companies, Peninsula Productions and the White Rock Players’ Club, regularly staging outstanding full productions and staged readings. Starting on December 6, don’t miss White Rock’s annual Panto, “Snow White and the 8 Dwarfs.” It promises to be an evening of holiday shenanigans and laughter.
5) Indulge in brunch
Recharge and warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, tea, or coffee at a cozy table with friends. White Rock’s restaurants offer unbeatable brunch options, making it the perfect destination for your next gathering. Some of our favourite spots for drinks and brunch include Laura’s Coffee Corner, The Wooden Spoon or Grounds & Greens Cafe.
6) Go for high tea.
Feeling a bit fancy? Craving the highest-quality tea? Head over to Clancy’s Tea Cosy for a spectacular High Tea experience. There’s nothing like good food (especially baked goods) to brighten up a cold day. Clancy’s promises only the best British quality food. Our favourite treat is the scone with jam and clotted cream! Other spots offering a tea experience in White Rock include La Baia Italian Restaurant and Hillcrest Bakery.
7) Take a spa day
There’s no better escape from the cold than indulging in a soothing spa day. Let the cozy robes, calming music, and skilled therapists create a cocoon of comfort, where you can enjoy rejuvenating treatments like hot stone massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Some of our favourites for the ultimate in relaxation are J’Adore Laser & Spa and Pamper Me Day Spa.
