As humans we are programmed to be both creative and to appreciate creativity, and the community of White Rock, though small, has a mighty arts community who love to share their work and also love to teach their disciplines. Here’s what is happening in White Rock’s art scene this summer!
The Great Canadian Cookoff – Seniors Edition
June 19 – 28, 2021
Join Semiahmoo Arts this Saturday, June 19 as they kickoff an exciting cooking event series. Four chefs from local restaurants will cook delicious food that will be streamed on their YouTube channel for you to follow along and recreate at home. Try preparing the dishes yourself, take a picture of your creation and post it to instagram, using the #SASeniorSCooking. The first 10 submissions will win a gift card for a local restaurant. Submit by June 28th. This virtual event is for the seniors (55+) in our community.
Live at Blue Frog
Open up those patio doors, or reserve a seat at The Pond, this Saturday, June 19 and enjoy a tribute to Roy Orbison while honouring the man with the voice, Michael Demers, who sadly left us earlier this year. And then on June 26, enjoy “Ladies Sing the Blues” – five beautiful and extremely talented ladies belting out the songs of the blues greats. Both shows are streaming on Blue Frog TV. Summer In-Person Art Classes with Semiahmoo Arts
Starting June 28, 2021 Semiahmoo Arts will be offering 5 pottery classes and 2 Painting/ Drawing classes in-person at South Surrey Rec and Art Centre. Classes include:
- Coiling Clay: Large Vessels & Sculptures
- Drawing the Portrait
- Introduction to Watercolour Painting
- Intermediate Pottery Wheel Throwing
- Introduction to Pottery Wheel Throwing
- Pottery Handbuilding
All in-person classes are conducted in accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines and regulations.

Art At Blue Cottage
Art at Blue Cottage features the work of local artists, established and emerging, and will be displayed throughout the beautiful gardens of Blue Cottage. Music and refreshments. Masks and social distancing are expected and encouraged. June 26 & 27 from 10am – 4pm. (1046 Stevens Street)
Creo Art Studio
Children aged 7 to 13 create, learn and play at Creo Art Studios summer camps and classes. Let your little’s inner Picasso free as they explore fibre arts, paint, photography and mixed media at afternoon classes all summer long. (1253 Johnston Road)
Uptown Art Affair: The Art of Colour
Discover an artistic journey into colour at the newest exhibit at White Rock’s Landmark Pop-Uptown Gallery. Featuring the stunning artwork of artists Karen Kroeker, Jacquie Alexander and Caroline Baasch, the exhibit runs from July 2 – 29, Wednesday to Saturday, 11am – 5pm and Sunday, 11am – 3pm.
