This June, head to White Rock for the new White Rock Jazz & Blues Festival.  The lively sounds of jazz and blues music will take over the streets of uptown White Rock from June 10 to 12, with free outdoor performances by an amazing group of talented musicians.

During the day, performers will be in various outdoor locations around the city performing toe-tapping jazz and blues for free. And in the evenings, tickets are available for headliners Tom Lavin & the Legendary Powder Blues performing live at the Blue Frog Studios.

Highlights include:

Tom Lavin and the Legendary Powder Blues Band (ticketed, June 10 & 11)

For over four decades Powder Blues has been Canada’s leading blues band. The mix of swing, blues, jazz, rock & roll and r & b appeals to everyone from seven to seventy!

Razmajazz Ensemble

The RazzMaJazz Ensemble is a popular and entertaining band that performs traditional jazz creole, Dixieland and blues-style music.

The Hillbettys

The Hillbettys are a Vancouver-based band of women playing old-timey, Appalachian folk, country, and gospel music on the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-waututh nations.

Alex Browne and his Boulevardiers

Alex Browne is an entertainment fixture on the Semiahmoo Peninsula due in part to his day job as the entertainment editor of the Peace Arch News. The ensemble is described as:  “Part music historian, part bon vivant, Alexander couples his smooth megaphone-crooner vocals with the fox trots, slow blues, Charlestons, waltzes, tangos and rumbas that put a sizzle in the 1920s. Close your eyes and you’ll swear you’ve time-travelled back to New York, London and Paris in that dazzling decade”

Dave Paterson
Dave re-interprets the country blues and country masters on vintage guitars while accompanying himself on harmonica (rack style). With a repertoire that ranges from Robert Johnson and Jimmy Reed through to Hank Williams listeners are taken down the country roads and railway lines of the ’30s, ’40s & ’50s.

Free daytime jazz and blues performance venues include:

Miramar Village (1542 Johnston Road)

Saltaire (1426 Johnston Road)

Creo Art Studio (1253 Johnston Road

Five Corners (Johnston Road & Pacific Avenue)

Laura’s Coffee Corner (15259 Pacific Avenue)
