Planning some quality together time this Family Day weekend? Grab your people and head to White Rock for a weekend of fun and exploration. Get active and hit the beach, go on public art walking adventure, experience a new global dining experience or hit the ice for a family skate. Here are just a few ideas for family-friendly fun in White Rock this Family Day weekend.

Family Event at the Museum

Bring the family to the White Rock Museum to meet the author and illustrator of the children’s book, What the Seal Saw. Author Sherry McMillan and illustrator Carla Maskall will be on the museum’s plaza on Sunday, February 19  from 11 am to 2 pm. Have your book signed (there will be copies for purchase as well), listen to the story read by the author, and participate in creating a community painting that will be displayed on the Museum Art Wall after the event. And then head down to the pier and see if you can spot any real-life seals!

Mural Walk

How many of White Rock’s beautiful murals can you find? Grab a snack and hot chocolate from one of our fabulous coffee shops and start walking!  You can find artwork, waiting to be discovered, around almost every corner, but one of our favourite forms of public art is the colourful murals that adorn the sides of many buildings throughout the city. We’ve even created a map with most of the murals so you can plot your journey. Snap a selfie with your favourite mural, upload it to your social media and tag #explorewhiterock. We’ll share our favourites!

Family Skate

The City of White Rock is hosting a free Family Skate on Monday, February 20 at Centennial Arena. Two skating sessions are available from 10:00 am to 10:45 am (Family Stick N Puck) and 11:00 am. to 1:00 pm (Family Day Skate).  No skates? No problem. Skates and helmet rentals are included. Drop-in or pre-register online at whiterockcity.ca/register or call 604-541-2199.

Beach Day

Who says you can’t go to the beach in winter? Bundle up and be sure to bring your umbrella … but the beach is still calling!  Hunt for crabs under the rocks, search for treasures in the seagrass, see what creatures you can spy in the tidal pools and keep your eyes peeled for colourful pieces of beach glass. And winter really is the best time of year for sandcastles … the wet sand at low tide is the perfect texture for building.

Global Dining Adventure

Are you looking to shake up your family’s eating-out experiences? Tired of visiting, or ordering from, the same restaurants over and over again? Why not try taking the family on a multicultural dining adventure by visiting some of White Rock’s global cuisine restaurants. You might be surprised to find out that your picky eaters actually love brown stew fish, dal makhani or pad thai.
