Romance is alive and well in White Rock. Maybe it’s the allure of the ocean, the promise of walks on the beach, or the spectacular sunsets. With February upon us and Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it might be time to start thinking about romancing the ones you love. Read on for some suggestions for how to make this Valentine’s Day a memorable one.

ROMANTIC GETAWAY

Enjoy a romantic getaway with walks on the beach and ocean views at the waterfront Ocean Promenade Hotel. This boutique hotel (White Rock’s only hotel) is located directly across the street from the sandy shores of East Beach. Book a room at the Ocean Promenade and enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands. And you are just steps from fantastic dining, a stroll along the promenade and those spectacular White Rock sunsets!

DATE NIGHT IDEAS

Take your Valentine on a “magical mystery” food tour of uptown White Rock. Local tour operator, Chew on This Tasty Tours, has curated a tasty walking/driving tour featuring some of White Rock’s unique restaurants and cafes, and while we can’t tell you where you’ll visit and eat, we can tell you that it will be delicious and so much fun! Visit their website to book … scroll down!

What could be more romantic than a gorgeous sunset with your love? At 1,500 feet long, the White Rock pier stretches out into Semiahmoo Bay for a 360-degree view of the sunset, the ocean and the city. Pick up a hot chocolate, bring a blanket to wrap around your shoulders and get cosy! Sunset takes place at approximately 5:30 pm on February 14 this year.

How about dinner and a show? Rock out this Valentine’s Day week at a live performance by two-time Grammy nominee Mindi Abair at Blue Frog Studios on Wednesday, February 15.  One of the most recognized and sought-after saxophonists, Mindi Abair electrifies audiences with her dynamic live performances and sax prowess. Or enjoy the live presentation of ‘Best Divorce Ever’ by the White Rock Players Club. By Finnish playwright Ville Nummenpää, the play is an adult romantic comedy about life and love, how we got here and what is next.  And, Peninsula Productions‘ presentation of “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney takes to the stage from February 17 to 19. Love Letters is the story of a 50-year correspondence between Melissa Gardner and her childhood friend-turned-love-interest, Andrew Makepeace Ladd III.

And, who doesn’t like a romantic dinner out? Make a reservation at one of White Rock’s restaurants. Many of them have Valentine’s specials and whether it’s an intimate table for two or a bustling eatery for a group, you’re sure to find a spot perfect for your night out.
